Human Fabric Trilogy III: The Haptics of Seeing Theater Performance by Wang Yung-An

I was very touched by what I saw.」

Human Fabric Trilogy: The Haptics of Seeing has addressed "Contemporary Haptics"and"Classical Haptics" in both live-performance and installation. We would like to discourse the "Predictions on Haptics" in our last presentation in Human Fabric Trilogy:

"I was very touched by what I saw" - if we take the literal meaning of this sentence, we connote our body’s perceptive sense with a more or less strong, but certainly quite direct feeling of physical experience. First Seeing, then Touching, or first Touching, then Seeing? Are we in charge of what we see? How do we experience our own reactions towards what we face with our senses? In the era of the Anthropocene, science has started to measure, quantify and evaluate the human sense of touch. Together with her team, Artist Wang Yung-An explores the connections between the ancient technique of massage and contemporary cognition through dance. The performance follows up on the ongoing process of the virtualization of human civilization, by introducing a visionary artistic approach towards our sense of perception. Findings from neurophenomenology are woven together with traditional ways of knowing the body, to create a space in which we can re-learn our sensual physical perceptions and question the constructed nature of our identities to depend on our haptic experiences.
