For the NSO’s New Year’s Eve and New Year concert, internationally renowned conductor Leonard Slatkin, with more than 100 recordings, over sixty Grammy nominations, and five golden Grammy’s to his name, will celebrate with the audience in style. One piece on the schedule, Holst’s Planets, unites a seven-movement orchestral suite, carrying audiences on a tour of the solar system that passes Mars, the Bringer of War; Venus, the Bringer of Peace; and Mercury, the Winged Messenger, each in its turn. But the most indispensable pieces of this New Year’s celebration are Strauss’s Waltzes, including overtures from Die Fledermaus and Blue Danube. In addition to the final countdown, the NSO also invite you to dance under the Concert Hall’s Swarovsky chandeliers. Come and enjoy this sophisticated midnight party.
