NSO與國際頂尖的維也納國家歌劇院合唱團首次合作，將於2008年震撼登場。此次特邀名指揮馬卡爾連袂演出，結合歷史意義與時代精神，跨越國界與時空，用生命力呈獻布拉姆斯《德意志安魂曲》，讓音樂為全人類呈獻寬容與希望，重燃生命力，撫慰世上所有歷經悲傷的心靈。
指揮馬卡爾於1968年遭逢蘇維埃政權鎮壓而離開故鄉捷克，歷經35年的顛沛流離後，於2003年重返祖國，以芢苒歲月累歷出的豐富人生經驗，再度登上「布拉格之春」舞台；而代表著「歐洲音樂靈魂」的維也納國家歌劇院，於二次世界大戰中遭無情戰火摧殘，以十年時間從斷壁殘垣中再度站起，於1955年重現音樂殿堂的光芒；1947年的福爾摩沙，也在六十年後揮去哀慟的心靈，迎向希望。
布拉姆斯的《德意志安魂曲》，跳脫哀悼死者的悲情意識，選擇對生者表達慰藉與溫暖，其細膩的樂音溫暖人心，為音樂史上合唱管絃樂的經典之作。素有「台灣的拉赫瑪尼諾夫」美譽的蕭泰然譜出《一九四七》序曲，將台灣人深厚的土地情，化為千千萬萬動人的音樂史詩。

Out of the Valley of Sorrow, Reaching for the Light of Hope
This year NSO has the privilege of collaborating with the prestigious Chor der Wiener Staatsoper for the first time with Zdeněk Mácal acting as conductor. Maestro Mácal was forced to leave his homeland Czekoslavia when the Soviet army invaded the country to repress the liberalization in 1968. Thirty-five years after his exile, Mácal returned to his homeland to take up the baton in the Prague Spring festival and received enthusiastic applause for the music enriched by his life experience. Der Wiener Staatsoper, totally ravaged during World War Two, reopened in 1955 after ten years’ renovation. Both incidents could be examples for the Taiwanese people, who suffered in 1947, on how to break the bondage after sixty years of lamenting.
We will join forces to perform Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, a masterpiece for chorus composed over one century ago yet still impresses the audiences of our time tremendously. Brahms made the attemp
